HackUnion Code of Conduct

HackUnion is committed to a respectful, safe, and inclusive community. Every participant, mentor, volunteer, speaker, and organizer is expected to follow this Code of Conduct in all HackUnion spaces.

TL;DR

Be respectful. Be inclusive. Do not harass, discriminate, or disrupt others. If you see something unsafe, report it immediately to an organizer or by email at hello@hackunion.org.

Introduction

HackUnion welcomes participants from all backgrounds, identities, and experience levels. We do not tolerate harassment or exclusion in any form. This policy applies to all HackUnion activities, including hackathons, workshops, meetups, online communities, and direct communication channels connected to our events.

Expected Behavior

Respect and Inclusion

  • Treat others with patience, dignity, and professionalism.
  • Encourage participation from people with different viewpoints and backgrounds.
  • Use language that is welcoming and constructive.

Collaboration and Care

  • Give feedback that helps others improve without personal attacks.
  • Respect shared event spaces and community resources.
  • Support a learning-first environment where questions are safe to ask.

Unacceptable Behavior

  • Harassment, intimidation, bullying, or discrimination of any kind.
  • Offensive verbal, written, or visual content targeting identity or background.
  • Unwanted sexual attention, contact, advances, or suggestive behavior.
  • Disrupting sessions, talks, workshops, or community discussions repeatedly.
  • Sharing someone else's private information without explicit permission.
  • Encouraging or normalizing any behavior listed above.

Reporting Incidents

If you experience or witness behavior that violates this policy, report it as soon as possible.

  • Speak to any HackUnion organizer at the venue or in the official online space.
  • Email details to hello@hackunion.org.
  • Include what happened, when it happened, and any relevant context or evidence.

We handle reports with care, discretion, and timely follow-up.

Consequences

Participants asked to stop inappropriate behavior must comply immediately. Depending on severity, organizers may take actions such as:

  • Private or formal warning
  • Temporary removal from a session or channel
  • Removal from the event without refund (if applicable)
  • Suspension from future HackUnion activities
